We’re incredibly proud to announce that as of July 1, 2018, Royal Davui will begin to eliminate all single serving plastic items such as drinking straws, water bottles and plastic food containers. We are the first Fijian island resort to make a sustainability commitment of this level.
Our commitment to our community and environment does not simply stop at protecting the coral gardens, marine life and the island itself. We were surprised to realise we use in excess of 10,000 straws annually, 2,500 food containers and another 15,000 water bottles – that is a lot of plastic. Eliminating all of these items moves us closer to becoming a plastic free island.
These wonderful changes are just another way our guests can enjoy our resort with both their hearts and their heads. We’re excited to provide our wonderful guests with a sustainable and eco friendly experience by:
Paper straws will be available for guests to sip their tropical cocktails and refreshing beverages.
For sustainability, plastic bottles will be replaced by reusable glass bottles, which will be filled via a state-of-the-art filtration system and delivered to guest villas daily.
Years ago we removed these small plastic bottles and replaced them with larger bottles that can go home with guests. This has saved countless tonnes of plastic waste.
Royal Davui was one of the first Fijian resorts to install a full tertiary water treatment plant meaning all wastewater is cleaned and reused with no impact on the surrounding environment.
Environmental reef protection engineering was employed during construction of the jetty, thus, avoiding pile driving.
Our delectable cuisine uses a minimum 80% locally grown produce, aiding domestic suppliers, reducing preservation packaging and limiting waste in the process.
